How It Works

ePaper, E Ink's core product, has a number of advantages over traditional LCD / OLED emissive displays. E Ink is a reflective display that leverages the ambient light in the environment, and only requires power to update an image, not to maintain it. This means ePaper displays using E Ink's proprietary electronic ink are ultra-low power, easy on the eyes, with low blue light and excellent outdoor readability. 


E Ink's ePaper displays utilize ambient and/or external light sources. Unlike LCD displays, which are emissive displays, E Ink displays are easier on the eyes and less eye strain since there is no display light being emitted directly into the eye. In addition, E Ink's displays themselves emit zero blue light; the addition of front lights for reading in the dark can be engineered to have extremely low blue light. Unlike LCD displays, which require an even brighter backlight to ensure legibility in the sun, consuming more energy and emitting more harmful blue light, E Ink displays reflect the sun's light - the more ambient light, the brighter ePaper displays look.
